Sarah Palin supports Special Olympics - pres mocks

This is a relatively old post, from Jan 6 2009 - its by a british person apparently who is just flabbergasted on the "victory" of Obama.

I ran across it while looking through comments on a Sarah Palin video at the Susan B Anthony group page on facebook where Sarah is accompanied by her youngest daughter and youngest son Trig who has Downs Syndrom; she is advocating the Special Olympics.

The extra kick to the timing of Sarah's video is that on the same day, that night, March 19 2009, Obama went on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno and made a joke about his bowling skills that it was like he was trying out for the Special Olympics or something.

Really, I can't believe that a sitting president would take the time to travel to and appear on a tv comedy show, talk about how he's improving his bowling game, and make fun of special needs children. I am flabbergasted more and more every day!

The quote listed in the header of this blog is an abridgment of a quote of Ezra Taft Benson. Here it is in it's entirety:

In times as serious as these, we must not permit fear of criticism to keep us from doing our duty, even at the risk of our counsel being tabbed as political, as government becomes more and more entwined in our daily lives. In the crisis through which we are now passing, we have been fully warned. There are some of us who do not want to hear the message. It embarrasses us. The things which are threatening our lives, our welfare, our freedoms are the very things some of us have been condoning. Many do not want to be disturbed as they continue to enjoy their comfortable complacency. There can be no neutrality! We are, or we are not, on the side of the Lord! (Ezra Taft Benson, 1973)
