fw: Maryland: Same-Sex Marriage Takes Center Stage

An article on the front page of www.somd.com caught my eye.

We don't live in a theocracy. We have separation of church and state. So why is the state involved in marriage at all. It's a religious institution. Our tax dollars are being wasted paying our legislators to spend time on this issue. I'd say this is an extreme case of fraud and abuse. Government needs to get out of our families, homes, and lives. A read of this article conveys that much time and money has been wasted by government on this. This is unethical and un-american. We believe in limited government and individual liberty.

Now, until we are able to withdraw government's control of marriage, we at least should not allow it to re-define it.

Here's the article:

Same-Sex Marriage Takes Center Stage

Posted on February 08, 2011

By David Saleh Rauf

ANNAPOLIS (February 8, 2011) — Glen Dehn and Charles Blackburn met at a party in Baltimore's historic Bolton Hill neighborhood in the late 1970s.

Within a month, the two started living together.

Fast forward roughly 32 years: Dehn, 73, and Blackburn, 78, are still an item.

They've balked at the idea of getting married in one of the handful of states that allow same-sex marriage for one reason. They want to exchange vows in Maryland.

fw: Just Hours After Voting Against ObamaCare Repeal, Bill Nelson Admits “Possibility” That Health Law Is Unconstitutional

So much for the oath to uphold and defend the constitution, eh?

Just hours after he voted against the repeal of President Obama’s massive health care overhaul – preserving its $500 billion in Medicare cuts, $570 billion in tax hikes, and controversial individual mandate – liberal U.S. Senator Bill Nelson (D-FL) admitted on ABC’s Top Line today that there is a “possibility” the health law is unconstitutional. http://www.nrsc.org/just-hours-after-voting-against-obamacare-repeal-bill-nelson-admits-possibility-that-health-law-is-unconstitutional

fw: KFC SQUASHES ‘OBAMA’ IN BIZARRE CHINESE TV COMMERCIAL

This is humorous:

Is KFC threatening Barack Obama with a giant chicken sandwich? I don’t know, but I can say that around the time Chinese President Hu Jintao visited America a few weeks ago, KFC ran a commercial in Hong Kong using an Obama look-a-like (and the “change” phrase) to sell a new chicken sandwich. And it features that look-a-like getting pummeled by said sandwichhttp://www.theblaze.com/stories/kfc-squashes-obama-in-bizarre-chinese-tv-commercial/

FW: Vote Today

November 17, 2010

Dear Friend of Liberty,

Harry Reid has scheduled a cloture vote on S. 510, the so-called "Food Safety Modernization Act," for today.

Call, fax, and email your senators right away.  Urge them to stand up for the free market, family farms, and local food producers by rejecting this Big Agriculture-empowering bill.

The statists are attempting to throw America's heartland under the government-subsidized corporatist bus.  And your senators' votes could make the difference.

We don't have any time to lose.  Please, contact them immediately!

In Liberty,

John Tate

President

P.S.
Click here to learn more about S. 510 and the FDA's War on Food.  Also, please forward this message to your family and friends.

P.P.S.  S. 510 is only one of many statist power grabs we can expect to see during the Lame Duck session.  If you are able, click here to chip in $10 so C4L can successfully fight the establishment's agenda.

Hoyer blaming and complaining; those Republicans ... yet again ...

In an email message that I received from the House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, he continues to point the finger at the minority Republicans. This seems to be all he is capable of; whining, complaining, blaming others, and not showing any accountability or responsibility for his own or his party's actions, who are currently in control. This is so laughable and disgusting. Anything is better than the incumbancy! We can't get any worse off. We have two choices: 1. Continue down the path towards socialist tyrannical disaster or 2. try something different, like how about changing course back toward the principals of our founders upon which America was built: limited consitutional government, minimal fair taxation, and fiscal responsibility.

I haven't read the article yet, but Hoyer is just so frustrating I needed to share this immediately. I imagine that the article has some inaccuracies and/or lies in it. Furthermore, I don't think we can just take the Republicans at face value, but they definitely are laying out some common sense plans. I'm sure it's not perfect, but I can tell you from the little I've learned about it, that the choice between the status quo and their pledge is a no-brainer. We just need to stay vigilant in holding the pledgors accountable and continue pushing them toward a smaller more limited government.

If you think the Pledge lacks specifics, how about the mantra "Hope and Change"?

New York Times: Republicans’ Deficit-Cut Pledge Lacks Specifics

"In short, the pledge imagines a world without tough choices, where we can have low taxes, big government and a balanced budget. And therein lies the path to ever larger deficits."

Wanted to draw your attention to a story in today's New York Times highlighting how the Congressional Republicans' Pledge to America has no real plan to reduce the deficit and avoids the tough choices necessary to reduce the deficit.

Read the story here.

Amazing: Aerial Shot of Glenn Beck’s ‘Restoring Honor’ Rally, Plus A Little of Sharpton

Post by Joe Schoffstall at
http://blog.eyeblast.tv/2010/08/amazing-aerial-shot-of-glenn-becks-restoring-honor-rally-plus-a-little-of-sharpton/

I haven’t paid much attention to the numbers the mainstream media is saying attended the Glenn Beck ‘Restoring Honor’ rally yesterday at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., but I’d guesstimate it’s somewhere around 500-1000 people given their track record on previous ‘estimates’. (note: that’s sarcasm directed at the media’s reporting of the first 9/12 march last year.)

This is a photo I first saw on Twitter, and since I’ve seen it floating around elsewhere. I thought I’d share it with everyone just in case you haven’t seen it.

Hollywood's Catered Stimulus

Why $23 million creates just 21 jobs

By Tim Cavanaugh, LA Weekly, Friday, Nov 13 2009

"I don't discuss my personal finances," Tony Garcia says, sitting in his spacious photography studio on Melrose Avenue. In these hard times, with boarded-up storefronts lining the length of Melrose, Tony Garcia Photography seems to be a rare patch of prosperity. At the moment, the main studio is set up for work on a Sprite advertisement. The kitchenette is littered with half-eaten cake and bottles of booze.
Yet what Garcia refers to as "personal finances" are federal-government funds designed to combat what is routinely called the worst economic catastrophe since the Great Depression.

The Obama presidency increasingly resembles a modern-day Ancien Régime: extravagant and out of touch with the American people

What the great French historian Alexis de Tocqueville would make of today's Obama administration were he alive today is anyone's guess. But I would wager that the author of L'Ancien Régime and Democracy in America would be less than impressed with the extravagance and arrogance on display among the White House elites that rule America as though they had been handed some divine right to govern with impunity. ...

The stunning decline of Barack Obama: 10 key reasons why the Obama presidency is in meltdown

The last few weeks have been a nightmare for President Obama, in a summer of discontent in the United States which has deeply unsettled the ruling liberal elites, so much so that even the Left has begun to turn against the White House. While the anti-establishment Tea Party movement has gained significant ground and is now a rising and powerful political force to be reckoned with, many of the president's own supporters as well as independents are rapidly losing faith ...

The quote listed in the header of this blog is an abridgment of a quote of Ezra Taft Benson. Here it is in it's entirety:

In times as serious as these, we must not permit fear of criticism to keep us from doing our duty, even at the risk of our counsel being tabbed as political, as government becomes more and more entwined in our daily lives. In the crisis through which we are now passing, we have been fully warned. There are some of us who do not want to hear the message. It embarrasses us. The things which are threatening our lives, our welfare, our freedoms are the very things some of us have been condoning. Many do not want to be disturbed as they continue to enjoy their comfortable complacency. There can be no neutrality! We are, or we are not, on the side of the Lord! (Ezra Taft Benson, 1973)
