Ron Miller: The Never-Ending Lie About Compassion

Ron Miller, on March 15 2009, at regularfolksunited.com, wrote a good article about how the liberals make conservatives out to be the incompassionate ones and that government is the best means to help the needy, but in reality conservatives are the most compassionate and generous; as well, that the government has so much overhead, fraud, waste, and abuse that a very small amount of each dollar that is used to help the needy actually makes it into the needy's hands.

My response on facebook is:

I can't take this guy. Everything he does and says is the opposite of what the truth is. Did O really say that? I'm sure he did. After all, he is who we thought he was and said he is.

Conservatism is about taking less from people so they are free to do more with the fruits of their own labor. Like, how about, giving to charity, or adopting a child. He wants to reduce the taxable deductions allowed for charitable contributions. Seriously, I can't take it. This is so absurd. What drives me bonkers the most is that some people still are drooling over this guy.

Hello! I gotta stop. Somebody wake me up!

I also commented at regularfolksunited.com on his post that I thought his article was very good, thoughtful, and thourough. Then included my main paragraph on conservatism from my facebook comment and thanked him.

The quote listed in the header of this blog is an abridgment of a quote of Ezra Taft Benson. Here it is in it's entirety:

In times as serious as these, we must not permit fear of criticism to keep us from doing our duty, even at the risk of our counsel being tabbed as political, as government becomes more and more entwined in our daily lives. In the crisis through which we are now passing, we have been fully warned. There are some of us who do not want to hear the message. It embarrasses us. The things which are threatening our lives, our welfare, our freedoms are the very things some of us have been condoning. Many do not want to be disturbed as they continue to enjoy their comfortable complacency. There can be no neutrality! We are, or we are not, on the side of the Lord! (Ezra Taft Benson, 1973)
