Final Call - Vietnam adoption plea to congress

I sent the following letter to my senators and representative just now:

Urgent! Deadline Today! Please Help!
Please stop by Sen. Landrieu's office today or contact Sarad Peri in her office at
Sarada_Peri@landrieu.senate.gov.
Today is the deadline to sign the letter to the Prime Minister of Vietnam regarding re-opening
international adoption relations and arrangements between our two countries. This letter will
encourage Vietnam’s continued participation in negotiations related to the new bilateral agreement
on intercountry adoption. The letter will express Congressional support for the continuation of
intercountry adoption and will emphasize the importance of the transition to a Hague-compliant
system and a new bilateral treaty.
We just checked with Sen. Landrieu's office and learned that you have not yet taken the time to sign
the letter. We, and many families affected by the recent closure of Vietnam to adoptions, have been
significantly affected both emotionally and financially. Children in the process of coming home to
our loving families, in our country of liberty, are now left stranded in orphanages left to a much
worse prospect on life. Thousands of dollars already sacrificed to bring these little ones home have
been wasted, compounding the hardship and stress that we are already enduring in this economic
recession.

The quote listed in the header of this blog is an abridgment of a quote of Ezra Taft Benson. Here it is in it's entirety:

In times as serious as these, we must not permit fear of criticism to keep us from doing our duty, even at the risk of our counsel being tabbed as political, as government becomes more and more entwined in our daily lives. In the crisis through which we are now passing, we have been fully warned. There are some of us who do not want to hear the message. It embarrasses us. The things which are threatening our lives, our welfare, our freedoms are the very things some of us have been condoning. Many do not want to be disturbed as they continue to enjoy their comfortable complacency. There can be no neutrality! We are, or we are not, on the side of the Lord! (Ezra Taft Benson, 1973)
